To connect parents, teachers and students to information awareness professionals and experiences, we have the following events, programs and resources:
CyberWatch K12 works with every member of school communities to improve cyberethics, cybersafety, and cybersecurity awareness and practice, and build interest in information assurance careers. Each year technology becomes more important to the way government, organizations, and businesses operate. At the same time technology is becoming even more central to our everyday lives. At the very least, CyberWatch K12 helps students learn the cyberethics, cybersafety and cybersecurity skills that they need to keep their reputations, themselves, and their data safe when they use their own internet capable devices. At its best CyberWatch K12 provides students fun hands-on experiences which allow them to explore the plethora of CyberSecurity careers.
The need for CyberSecurity professionals is among the fastest growing professions. These jobs are high paying and many can never be outsourced. Demand for trained CyberSecurity/information assurance professionals is outpacing the numbers of graduates from 2 and 4 year institutions. Part of the problem is a lack of awareness of the great jobs that are available. CyberWatch K12 is dedicated to connecting practicing information assurance professionals to schools, students and parents so that they can learn about the diverse opportunities while kids are still in the process of deciding who they are going to be when they grow up. In 2011, CW K12 started its first CyberSecurity CTE track in partnership with the Maryland State Department of Education. High school students will now be able to take some of the same CyberWatch courses offered in our 2 and 4 year institutions. Dual enrollment options are also possible. CW K12 is working with other states throughout the US to expand both its informal after school/summer programs and its formal CyberSecurity High School Track.
Many CyberSecurity jobs require security clearances, so CyberWatch K12 also provides schools, students and parents with the resources and training to help students better manage their online reputations. As part of our mission to improve the cyberethics, cybersafety, and cybersecurity of the entire school communities with which we work, we help students understand the permanence of what they post online. The decisions students make today can change the opportunities they have in the future.
