The University of Maryland, College Park is located within the DC beltway, just 20 minutes from DC itself. This great location means there's plenty to do in the local area and it's easy to reach the city by Metrobus or Metrorail.

On Campus:

Take an arts class at the Stamp Student Union, see a movie at the Hoff Theatre, take part in a sports program at campus recreation, or grab an ice cream cone at the University Dairy. For more information, see the University Campus Life page.

Washington, D.C.

Home of the Smithsonian, the National Gallery of Art, and the National Zoo, DC is full of places to explore. See the National Cathedral, the Washington monument, or visit one of its many parks and gardens. There's the Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, FDR, Vietnam and Korean memorials, as well as the National Archives.

Music & Theatre:

Catch a show at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center on campus, the Kennedy Center, historic Ford's theatre, Wolf Trap, or any of a variety of local theatres in the area. Concert venues include Wolf Trap, the MCI Center, & the Nissan Pavilion.
 
 

Outdoors Activities:

Maryland and its neighboring states are a great place to enjoy the outdoors. For an overview, see Maryland Outdoors. You can experience class 5 rapids at Harpers Ferry, kayak into downtown DC, hike the Appalachian Trail, visit any number of Civil War Battlefields (such as Antietam or Gettysburg), or see the wild horses on Assateague Island.
 
 

Nearby Areas:

With only a 30 minute drive, you can tour the downtown port and historical settings of Maryland's capital Annapolis, or the harbor, aquarium, and shopping in downtown Baltimore. The Old Town historic district in Alexandria is only 45 minutes from campus. For a slightly longer drive you can stroll the boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland, or visit some of the many wineries in Virginia.
